Arabia meets Africa

some parts of Yemen look like it could be somewhere in Africa, given the lush green fields, different kind of people and houses/architecture.

the following pictures were taken on the way from Taez to Al Hodeida, and from Al Hodeida to Bajil and further on to Zabid. agriculture in this region includes bananas, papayas, mangos, corn, cotton, potatoes, etc.

little African-style huts forming a little village. these huts are typical for the region of Tihama.

a family has several of these huts, one where the family sleeps, one for the men to gather, one for potential guests, one for stocking agricultural goods.

many of the families living in these huts belong to the tribe Zaraniq, a famous tribe of warriors who fought against the influence of those from the high plateaus.
