Khalil Al-Hoteib is a holy place for the Ismailites in Yemen. it has become an important place for pilgrimage of the Ismailites, both from Yemen and abroad, in particular from India.
the Ismailites belong to a branch of Shiism but they never pray together neither with the Shiites, nor with the Sunnis. they remain rather secret on their doctrine, to the extent that most Yemenis don't know the exact content. they never marry anyone outside their branch.
today, an estimated 70,000 Ismailites live in Yemen.
